In reading, we are about halfway through our expository nonfiction unit. During this week, we focused on finding and understanding text features. Also, we wrote our first essay using two texts and text evidence! It was a lot of work, but we really enjoyed pulling apart the prompt, outlining our thoughts, and writing our essays.
Students using multiple texts and an outline to write their essays.
We focused on making sure our essays answered the prompt.
We learned it was important to put text evidence in our own words.
In science, we reviewed cells. In social studies, we learned about September 11.
We take our multiplication tests every Tuesday and Thursday. Please make sure that students are studying for these!
Our fifth grade spend two days at Camp Explore. Our first day at Camp Explore was
filled with fun and lots of learning. Students build LEGO bridges in a
STEM activity, built confidence and team spirit in the ropes course,
learned team work canoeing, learned aerodynamic concepts building
rockets, learned about Tennessee wildlife, and learned how to shoot a
gun and a bow and arrows. At dusk, Mr. Jerry showed them how to lower
and fold the flag, then it was SMORES time, before a movie, then bed. On our second day, students helped Mr. Jerry raise
the flag, then they learned orienteering, fossils and physics before
packing up and going back to school. You can see a lot of awesome pictures HERE
