August 25 - 29

What a fantastic week!

In ELA, the fourth graders finished up Stone Fox.  We really enjoyed this heartwarming story!  The fifth graders finished Frindle.  We were so pleased with the surprise ending! Both classes took a test (which we all passed with flying colors), and wrote book reviews that we put on kidblog!

You can check out our blogs at:

In math, we worked on multiplication arrays.  We were able to use fruit loops as a manipulative.
After we were finished, we were able to eat them as a snack.

Math can be so delicious!
On Tuesday, our teachers participated in the Ice Bucket Challenge.  We were so excited to pour ice cold water over their heads!

Ms. Moore and Ms. Lommel
Even the teachers had a ton of fun!

On Thursday night, our teachers presented at the Board of Education meeting about all the great things happening at Highland!  You can watch the video presentation here:Highland BOE Education
We hope you have an enjoyable long weekend!
We can't wait to see you on Tuesday!

August 18 - August 22

We were so excited to see so many of you at our Open House!  It was so nice to see the students sharing their leadership notebooks with their families.
Ms. Lommel joins the conversation about leadership notebooks.
Ms. Moore enjoys talking with current and past students!

In ELA, fourth grade is reading the novel Stone Fox, and fifth grade is having a blast reading Frindle.  Both grades are working on types of sentences and rules of capitalization.  We plan on finishing up both books next week.  Remember to keep practicing your cursive writing!
Fourth graders are ready to find out what happens with Grandfather and little Willy!
The fifth graders are loving Frindle! We were laughing all week.

In science, both grades are working on plant and animal cells.  I bet you heard all about the delicious cells they made with Ms. Moore!  They really enjoyed having a hands on experience with cells.
The girls enjoyed the fabulous sparkles.
The boys enjoyed the tasting aspect!
All students were smiling from ear to ear when sharing about what they learned in science!

In math, we finished up place value. Now, both grades are working on rounding and decimals.  There were plenty of centers and activities to help the students comprehend this skill!

We can't wait to see our students on Monday!  Have a fun and enjoyable weekend!

August 11 - August 15

We are off to a great start this year!  We have been hired for our first leadership positions, and we are continuing to work on the 7 Habits.
This week, we will be covering place value in math, the scientific method in science, and blogging in ELA.  We will also begin our first novel study.  In 4th, we are starting Stone Fox. In 5th, we are starting Frindle.  Be sure to check in with your student to see their blogs at kidblog.org/HighlandFay, HighlandMoore, or HighlandLommel.

Also, be sure to come see us Tuesday, August 19th from 5:30-7 at our open house.
We got to know each other by putting our partners in the "hot seat."

After learning about our peers, we introduced them to the class.

We blogged about ourselves on kidblog.org.

We love being able to use our new laptop cart!
 We work hard...and play hard!
I can see the Leader in Me!
