Aug 22 - Aug 26

In ELA this week, we worked on different text structures for expository nonfiction.  We were introduced to 5 types: description, compare and contrast, order and sequence, problem and solution, and cause and effect.  We will be working on these types of text structures next week. We also found out that we are getting to write our own expository nonfiction book! Students chose from a variety of science and social studies topics, and then we utilized the library to find references.  Over the next two weeks, we will be working to publish our books!  We blogged our essays that we have been working on over the past week.  The students enjoyed reading what everyone had written about different topics.

Both grades took a writing assessment this week.  We loved being able to show what we've been learning about when it comes to writing essays!

The fifth graders took their science test this week.  Both fourth and fifth began working on social studies.  We talked about defining history and worked on family trees.  Ms. Moore conferred with students about social studies goals.

In math, the fourth graders work started variables and equations.  Fifth graders started working on long division.  Both grades are continuously working on multiplication facts.  Please remember that students are responsible for studying their multiplication facts each night for 5 minutes! Knowing the multiplication facts will help students become quicker at figuring out problems.
